Yes, it really happened! An adorable 5 year old boy, Tylon Bittman from Mississippi had to slowly build up courage to do what he could do to stop the Grinch from stealing Christmas!
Tylon called 911 and informed an operator “I just want to tell you something. Watch for that little Grinch, Because the Grinch is gonna steal Christmas, okay?”
Police actually then visited Tylon’s house to assure him that the Grinch wouldn’t be stealing Christmas this year, at least not on their watch!
Byram (Miss.) Police Officer Lauren Develle heard about what happened and wanted to ensure that Tylon knew that his holiday was safe.
“Our dispatcher posted a status on Facebook that she had received a call from a little boy … and he told her he thought the Grinch was going to be coming to steal his Christmas,” she said. “I asked her to send me his address.”
The boys parents had no idea that the 911 call happened, until there are a knock at the door and lights outside. When they answered the door, Officer Develle was there to help reassure little Tylon that the Grinch wouldn’t ruin Christmas this year.
“The Grinch is not going to come steal your Christmas. I won’t let that happen,” Develle told little Tylon.
Develle actually is very fond of the Grinch movies “I kind of find it really funny. … Every Christmas morning, my dad wears these Grinch pants,” she said while smiling. “It’s his favorite movie. Growing up seeing the Grinch every Christmas was my favorite thing.”
Officer Develle even took it to the next level and helped stage an arrest of the Grinch while listing Tylon’s help. “I asked (Tylon) if he saw the Grinch, what would he do, and he said he’d call us and get us to come take him to jail. So I ended up looking around and I found him”.
Officer Develle and honorary junior officer Tylon arrested the grinch and escorted him to a holding cell.
Tylon then continued to question and interrogate the Grinch – “Why are you stealing Christmas?”
Police Chief Thompson said the whole ordeal can help people remember what the holidays are really about.
“Let’s have a little joy this year,” Thompson stated. “And this has certainly brought a lot of people joy.”
Thompson presented Tylon with a Grinch stuffed doll so he could always remember the year that he stoped the Grinch from stealing Christmas. He also made a promise to Tylon, who wants to become a police officer when he grows up.
“When you turn 21, come back and I’m going to give you a job application, OK?” he said.
