A representative from the festival and Eminem’s team stated “contrary to inaccurate reports, Eminem does not use gunshot sound effects during his live show. The effect used by Eminem in his set at Bonnaroo was a pyrotechnic concussion which creates a loud boom. He has used this effect – as have hundreds of other artists – in his live show for over 10 years, including previous U.S. festival dates, without complaint.”.
Although these pyrotechnic’s and noises have been used for many years by many artists, some are still criticising stating artists need to be more aware of the fans and their fears with recent actions that have occuring during concerts and festivals. Ron Avi Astor, a professor at the University of Southern California, who has performed a large amount of research on violence and mass shootings state – “One of the issues that comes up is that, he’s been doing it for many years and so have others, but it has different meaning now,”
What do you think? Is this an overreaction or should Eminem and other artists be more in touch with the events around the world and how fans are reacting?
And, how do you think Eminem is going to react to this controversy? Do you think he will remove these sounds from future concerts or keep them?
