Can you believe it? It seems like yesterday we were hearing about Eminem getting Sober, it’s now been 10 full years!
Yesterday, Eminem posted on Instagram showing off his 10 year chip marked with an X stating “Celebrated my 10 years yesterday.”
This goes back to 2007, when Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers revealed that he had a near death experience from an accidental overdose. He stated that at the time, his addiction got so bad he was taking up to 20 pills a day!
He has been quoted saying “I used to get pills wherever I could,” and “I was just taking anything that anybody was giving to me.”.
Since then he has replaced pills with spending time with his kids (Hailie Jade, Lainey and Whitney) and exercising.
“When I got out of rehab, I needed to lose weight, but I also needed to figure out a way to function sober,” he told Men’s Journal back in 2015. “Unless I was blitzed out of my mind, I had trouble sleeping. So I started running. It gave me a natural endorphin high, but it also helped me sleep, so it was perfect.”
He even recommends this replacement to anyone struggling – “It’s easy to understand how people replace addiction with exercise. One addiction for another but one that’s good for them.”
